Who’s Hungry?!? Hey fellow food lovers! My name is Doug, and I am Long Island’s Professional Fat Guy! Here on Long Island, there are tons of hobbies you can get involved in. My wife Jessica and I love to go out and try new restaurants. There are so many places to choose from with a vast variety of themes, scenes and authentic cuisines. We are here to tell you about our favorite spot we visit each month.
Breakfast!! The most important meal of the day. Jess and I enjoy our breakfast dates. She could eat breakfast food 3 meals a day and be happy. Today, we visited B.L.D.’s in Ronkonkoma for breakfast. Walking in you’re greeted by patriotic décor everywhere. I always appreciate a place that pays respect to our military and law enforcement officers. It’s a very clean place that is well laid out for the size of the dining room. We were promptly greeted by a smile and escorted to our table. We were informed of the daily specials by our host and given our menus. Our server Angelina came over seconds later, introduced herself and took our drink order. I got a chocolate milk and a coffee and the wife got orange juice and an herbal tea. Drinks came out in minutes. Watching the staff work in this place was like a well oiled machine. They worked as a team helping tables that they weren’t assigned to, focused purely on customer satisfaction and efficiency. Coffee was perfect! You can tell a lot by a cup of coffee. I drink coffee all day and a place that doesn’t have coffee or has bad coffee is a “no go” zone for me.
Their menu was extensive. A lot of really good options, so we had to try them all of course! We got Pigs in a Blanket, BLD’s Passport Breakfast with Swedish Crepes, Cheese Blintzes, French Toast Wedges and a side of Biscuits and Country Gravy. Everything came out quickly and looked delicious. We started with the Pigs in a Blanket (breakfast sausage wrapped in a pancake). The pancakes were light and fluffy and we found out are made from scratch. Simple but one of my favorite breakfast combinations. We then moved on to the French Toast Wedges. These were unique! French toast triangles dipped in batter and deep fried, kind of like a Zeppoli. Delicious!! Following that was the Cheese Blintzes. Thin crepes filled with a creamy 3 cheese blend complimented with sour cream. Never had them before but I will definitely have them again! Next we moved onto BLD’s Passport Breakfast which consisted of the following, 2 eggs any style (we chose over easy),2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage links and a choice of 3 different types of crepes. We chose the Swedish that came with lingonberry butter and lingonberry preserves. The crepes were light and tasty. The lingonberry added a nice sweet fruit flavor to it. We ordered a toasted English muffin with it as well because a runny over easy egg on a toasted buttered English muffin is one of the best parts of breakfast. Last we had the Biscuits with Country Gravy. Country Gravy is something that every place makes differently. Theirs was creamy and filled with sausage. Definitely a hit in my book.
We spoke to Mike the manager a few times during the meal and he was very pleasant and informative. He helped us choose our meals and we couldn’t be happier with the recommendations. Obviously, B.L.D’s stands for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and they are open daily for all 3 meals. Lunch was starting as we were leaving and the lady across from us got a salad that looked so good we almost stayed! If you stop in, tell them Doug and Jess sent you!
Until next time, Bon Appetit!
