Foodie Feature with Doug and Jess! – The Hot Dog Hustler

The Hotdog Hustler Truck

Who’s Hungry?!? Hey fellow food lovers! My name is Doug, and I am Long Island’s Professional Fat Guy! Here on Long Island, there are tons of hobbies you can get involved in. My wife Jessica and I love to go out and try new restaurants. There are so many places to choose from with a vast variety of themes, scenes and authentic cuisines. We are here to tell you about our favorite spot we visit each month.

Not everyone has time to sit down and eat a meal. We’re New Yorkers! Always on the run, always trying to beat the clock, always having somewhere to go. That doesn’t mean you don’t get hungry. Sometimes you need a quick roadside stop for something to eat. Well, we found a hidden mobile gem right here in Ronkonkoma! The Hot Dog Hustler! Now we’ve all seen hot dog trucks on the side of the road before. They normally have all the same options. Hot dogs with ketchup, mustard, onions or sauerkraut, maybe they have some chili or cheese. Not this guy! He specializes in the Chicago style dogs that are buried in toppings. So many options we wanted to try them all, but we settled on 4 dogs. First, we had the “Willie Nelson” Grilled bacon, nacho cheese, fresh chopped onions topped with Red Doritos. I love it when a place this small uses fresh chopped ingredients. It shows their commitment to quality and their product. Perfect blend of flavors on a fresh soft bun with a hot dog that was perfectly cooked. Next up was Mama’s Slaw Dog. I definitely want to shake Mama’s hand! That slaw was on point! It was topped with the Secret Hustler Sauce, a must try. Next up we went for the Classic Chicago Dog. Now if you are going to call yourself a Chicago style hot dog truck you better not mess up the classic. Well ladies and gentlemen, he did not disappoint down to the celery salt seasoning he hit the nail on the head. Our last dog was called the Crunch Berry Blast. I know, I know that was my reaction too. Seriously? Crunch Berries and maple syrup on a hot dog?? Hey! You cannot say you didn’t like it if you never tried it! It was breakfast in a bun. Definitely a unique and creative way to have a hot dog. Overall, a phenomenal experience in a spot you did not expect it. You can find him most days at the Waltess Estates Park on Church St in Ronkonkoma. He is also available for private events and even has one of those small city carts you can use for your next backyard party. Stop down and tell J.R, “Hey Weenie Man! Doug and Jess sent us!”

Until next time, Bon Appetit!
